WOW - what a wonderful October

I can't believe that it has been so long since I've posted. I have had a very busy year. I think I will share a little bit at a time and give me a reason to come back and post!

The summer has been a great summer and one for many changes. My daughter and her family found their own place with a great yard for the children. It is nice that they found a place and although I do miss the kids, they are just minutes away. I guess this way they won't get bored with Mimi and Papa.

I was fortunate enough to go to California to visit my son's family and the newest addition to the family and celebrate his first year. It was great fun and I'm sure I overstayed my welcome. For a week of my visit I traveled with my artist friend (of 35 years) and we had a blast. I have thousands of images (literally) from the California coast and up through Yosemite. I still haven't had time to reveiw all of them.

The studio is busy with sessions this month. In fact, I'm working on a CD cover for Cat Carter and she is due here any minute. I must stop for now, but I will return! Have a great Thursday.

MERRY CHRISTMAS

As I finish some final orders for the Christmas photo season, I decided to take a break and bring my blog up to something festive in color to fit the season.

I don't know about most of you, but I'm feeling very blessed this year. Yes, we have had some negative things in our lives this year just like the rest of you, but all in all, we are so fortunate.

We have welcomed a grandson into the family. His name is Logan and he is living in California. His mommy had some health issues during and after birth, but is doing very well now. We are blessed for both of those things.

We had the "last" daughter get married in the fall and we were able to make the trip to Kansas City for that big event. It also meant being able to spend some quality time with Madison (20 months) for the second time this year. She is a big Skype buddy these days too.

We are fortunate to have Lilly and Gage with us in Tennessee and they are very precious. They grow and change daily. We welcomed a "new" grandchild into our midst when Chelsea married this summer. Her name is Lexi and a real sweetie.

We have been blessed that a few months after his work ending in W.Virginia, Tim was able to get some contract work with people he had worked for in the past.(whew!) Recently he landed a job (at least for 18 months) with Nissan. He now has a "real" job and even gets to stay at home. We really thought he would be going out of state again.

I've been able to visit my brother this year (thanks to my parents) and was welcomed by the most loving people ever! I had a wonderful time with his family there and he and I were able to play and bond and just be kids again. How great was that time with him! Thanks Kent.

We are very blessed to have our loved ones and friends safe and with us (even if far in distance) and I pray for those who have lost someone in their lives this year as well. This is a season of love and a painful time for those in mourning (you are in my thoughts, Lisa and David).

I want to take this time to wish all of you - my clients, my friends and those clients who have become friends! A very Merry Christmas. I appreciate each and every one of you and I so enjoy helping capture the memories for your loved ones.
I've enjoyed watching your babies grow into children and your children grow into adulthood. I have been blessed in that way and it is really great.

May all of you have a prosporous 2011 and enjoy every moment that you have with those you love and who love you. MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT!

A Full Fall Season . . .

As many of you are aware, I have had a very busy season in many ways. I just returned from two weeks in Honduras and one week in California. Hummmmmm - let me back up!

We were blessed with a new addition to our family this summer. His name is Logan and his daddy is my son. I had to fly to California just a couple of days after his birth for what could have been a huge problem, but with prayer and support - mommy got well and all is good.

A couple of weeks after I returned, my computer crashed. Yep. What a mess and it took a month to get it straighted out. You don't realize just how much software it takes to run your business until you have to track it down and reload it and try to get your workspace set up as before. All of my clients have been wonderful and I'm STILL playing catch up with my work. Sad, but true.

My brother came to visit after being away for a while and we all enjoyed his time here. I then had the oportunity to travel with him to California (yes, I got to see that grandbaby again) for a week and them home with him to Roatan for a couple of weeks. How could I turn that down?
Now you are up to date!

It was great to see all the people at the Blue Bahia; Maria, Daniel, Phillip and everyone else. They were happy to see me as well. It was like a family reunion. I actually picked up work there and the two weeks just flew and I stayed very busy.

During my trip, there was a horrible tragedy in the family. My cousins son, Brandon, was killed in a one car accident. He is only 23 and leaves a small child. It has to be the worst thing ever to have to bury a child - no matter their age. My heart goes out to Lisa and David and the rest of their family.

This has turned into an amazing season for business. I've actually sold three art images and I'm now very encouraged. How fun is that?

To all of you - thank you for your patience during computer failings, illness and travels. I'm hard at work to make before Christmas deliveries. THANK YOU ALL. I appreciate every one of you.

Good Golly . . . . .

Here I am, still working on my computer by loading MUCH software; trying to repair my email accounts and get things up and running as normal. I must thank all of my wonderful clients for their patience during this time.
I didn't realize that my computer was actually crashing in the early "problem days". Then - low and behold - - - BOOM. My C drive just gave up the ghost. I've been fortunate that I didn't lose any of my image files (those I back up twice) but the settings for my software was lost along with some plug ins. That is a bummer.

I am getting back into filling orders this week. There are some of you who have waited too long and for that I am truely sorry. Again, thank you for your patience with me and my computer.

I do hope everyone had a lovely Labor Day weekend. It was simply gorgeous here with the cooler temps, low humidity and sunshine. My father-in-law was unable to make the trip due to a fall prior to his trip, but he is on the mend. He has missed the house looking great with the blooming of all the crepe myrtle's and the roses! They are certainly enjoying the cooler temperatures.

Back to work so I can fulfill my promise of deliveries this week and next. Have a wonderful Tuesday.

Computer Abuse?

Okay - I will say that it has been a very frustrating two weeks and it is my own fault.

Have any of you had a computer glitch and just knew you should call to have a professional opinion, but you just KNEW you were fixing it or it would just "go away" in the night?

Well, I've been there for over a week. Yep. I would get a blue screen error; google the error and fix it. It was great! I felt like I had accomplished quite a bit. The next day I would get the same lovely blue screen but with a different error. I fixed that error. Do you see the pattern here?

Finally, I decided the computer wasn't performing as well (ya think?) and there were days that I would get the blue screen while working. I would fix, ignore and continue to work. How inconsiderate of my computer that I depend on daily!

Then a couple of days ago, it wouldn't open any program. The horrid blue screen just took over my life. All the time I was "fixing" the problem, I was actually prolonging the inevitable. My C drive was crashing. UGH!!!!!! I was forced to call Dell. Why didn't I do that before? Well, I didn't want to take the time.

There is SOMETHING to be said for "call a professional". That does go for photographers as well and I should have known better. Todd was able to determine that my drive what shot. I could have saved myself a week. So here I am - posting on the laptop and awaiting my new hard drive.

I could have had this all behind me and back to work instead of getting over a week behind on my work. I guess it is simply human nature. I thought I was saving time by fixing it myself. Yeah right - the hours reading chat rooms and tracing down the best "fix" for that error. What was I thinking? I wasn't!

I wonder if I am partially a man at heart! ha. Or did I just pick up this behavior from a man? (You all know who you are!) We'll see - - - - - will I do this again? Have a great week.

One on One

I decided to do a little teaching for three days. I used to teach lighting and posing at Memphis State University's extended program (well, not MSU anymore - showing my age?). I was approached by a client to teach Teresa from West Virginia, private lessons.
She did great!
We started out at 9:00 am and went all day - - - yes, in the heat. Teresa, it is now cooling here! We had a great time and Teresa did a great job working with lighting and getting familiar with her camera. At the end of the day we did a critique and she went home with frameable prints. I'm very excited for her and for me. I've made a wonderful friend and look forward to viewing her future work.
I will post a couple of her images soon. I've had a computer crash so it is a bit hectic in the studio.

Busy Summer

Well, here we are entering the last dog days of summer. This has been the hottest summer that I can remember for quite some time. There has been no relief from the heat, it seems.

This has also been a different year for business. I've sold some "art images" at Milo Gallery in Kingston Springs and am now on display at The Artist's Bungalow in Franklin. I've taken in more restoration images than ever before and I'm happy to see people preserving their memories and family history.

We welcomed a new grandchild on July 3rd this year. His name is Logan James and he lives in California. I've already been there to greet him into the family. What a gem. We now have four grandchildren with the oldest age 6. Lilly will be in first grade this year and has been wearing her new backpack around for days in preparation. Gage is following his sister around like a shadow and repeating everything that everyone says to him and making it sound like a question all the time. Very cute. Madison is talking up a storm and quite plainly, I might add. She is about 18 months now.

We have all been blessed with good health this year and are hopeful that it will continue. We've done a little rearranging of the studio as well and look forward to a good season this fall.

Oh yeah - - - I've taken up knitting again. Yep - must be feeling domestic with all of these grandchildren. I've already made one afghan and working on the second and will venture out to try to make something that I actually wear! We'll see how that goes.

I'm back to sewing again as well. I used to make all my own clothes, but I seem to be geared more to baby things and quilts, etc. right now. I'm enjoying my new machine a lot. It will embroider and what a blast.

Well, that catches you guys up. I look forward to having more to post later and I may even try a remodel later on. I'm really into making changes this year!

We are faring well after the weekend at the Factory in Franklin. The show was a great success and not only were there wonderful artists displaying their wares; the music was fantastic. There was music the entire time we were open. FUN.

The booth looked great and guess who forgot to take photos? It did cross my mind at one time, but we would just get busy again and it fell by the wayside. Tim stained the walls and we created a mini gallery in our booth that allowed me to display around 18 large images and several small ones. My work was well received and I was asked to participate again next year. Many people, including other artists, seemed to be impressed with what they saw and thought many images were paintings. I'm not sure if that is good or bad. I took it as a compliment, however, and I'll run with that.

Since my first show gave me more confidence in my art images, I'll try this again. I just need to find the "right" show to participate with. If any of you out there know of some, please let me know. I would love to hear from you.

To change the subject - it looks like our little elementary school has been selected by a new program to air this fall called "School Pride" (I think). They go in and totally revamp the school in ten days. Well, since ours was virtually trashed by the flood, this can be a good thing for our community. At least it looks like the school will be ready for the fall season again. Isn't that great?
We do have a wonderful community here and there are more heros than can be named.

I'm currently trying to prepare my art images for a showing the first weekend in June. This is quite an education as it is my first juried art show. You never really know how photography will be received so I'm trying to make very careful selections for display. It seems as though this past year my businss is making changes. These are good changes and I'm having fun with them. It just seems a little weird for me at this time.

I'm excited that more people are hiring me to paint their images in photography and to help restore their memories in the same manner. It has been very rewarding.

I want to take this oportunity to talk about the great city of Nashville and the residents and the wonderful people in my small community of Kingston Springs. I'm proud to call KS home.

This awful and totally unexpected flood came in so quickly that many didn't have time to get out of their homes. Some of those that were able to escape, witnessed their home wash away and break apart while all of their belongings were scattered God knows where.

Now, during this tragedy - - -people who have lost all of their belongings and in some cases their homes; consider themselves lucky to have escaped with their lives. While some are tearing out floors and "trashing" their furniture and belongings due to mold - they consider themselves lucky. Even some of these people are helping their neighbors. Imagine looking for a place to live and have nothing to move into it. Simple things like towels and sheets or even a bed.

The stories can go on and on and on. My entire point is that all of these people and their friends, family, neighbors and people of the community are jumping in to help others. I've never witnessed anything like it. No one complaining just counting their blessings. Everyone could complain, but instead they are thanking others for any help and support. EVEN manning a lost and found! They are thanking us for that small gesture. No one waited for outside help. The calls go out and someone is there. I can't stress enough the wonderful spirit of our community. I'm proud to live and work here!

For all of the people affected by this flood - - -my prayers are with you. Thank you for your great spirit and for those who just jump in and help - you are the greatest.

FINE ART SHOW

I want to let you know that I will be in a jurried art show the first weekend of June. I'm very excited about this show and it will be my first. I'm busy preparing my images in order to make a good impression for this show. I've decided to focus on my art images and painted portraits. I hope to see eveyone there. More information to come.

Mini Books

I wanted to mention how popular the mini book has become. For those of you who bring your child/children in for a session and can't seem to make a decision on just a couple of prints OR who want them all; the book can be the answer. A leather bound book with just a few basic colors and in an 8x8 size has become not only popular, but reasonable to offer to you.

There are some fantastic books out there now; silk, plexiglass, aluminum, etc. Pricing is based on the cover style, the amount of pages and the type of paper used. Be sure and ask to see some samples next time you are in the studio.

A Different Year

I will say this, that it has been a different kind of year so far than what has been "normal" the past several. I'm not saying that is a good or bad thing, it is just different. Most people I've spoken with have agreed.

I have had time to spend with my grandchildren and I certainly enjoy every minute with them. We had a lovely Christmas although it was quiet with my parents not here. They were visiting my brother in Roatan, Honduras (Blue Bahia Resort).

I am in the process of working a little restructure within the business and will make those announcements as they come about. I hope that my clients will give me their feed back as I pull out these new items. I have a lot of changes in mind and feel they will benefit all of us.

Happy New Year to all of you out there. My intentions have always been good regarding my blog posts, and I've fallen short each time. I hope that I'll "do better" in 2010 about posting each week.

This promises to be a "changing year" and I'll keep you updated as changes are made. One of the early changes will be a beginning photography class I'm teaching at Harpeth Art Gallery/Mud Puddle Pottery in Pegram. The class will begin in February and run for four weeks only (one night a week). My art work is on display at the gallery as well.

I haven't heard that term in many years. It used to be quite common when I was working in offices (that weren't mine). I guess I didn't use that term for Wednesdays since it really wasn't for us. We worked at weddings all day on Saturday so actually, Thursday was our mid week. I allowed my employees to be off Sunday and Monday. So, there is a little history lesson.

I want to use this space today to thank all of you for your kind words and patience during the past couple of weeks. As a lot of you know, Emmy Reno (my mother-in-law) passed away. She entered the hospital with a heart attack and lingered for only a short time. Emmy celebrated 90 years of life. How great is that? She certainly enjoyed all of the babies and loved having them visit. I guess she will be watching them from her special place in heaven.

Emmy, it was an honor and a pleasure to know you.

I'm Back

I have been so negligent in posting on the blog, that I've decided to make a better effort to get information to all of you. I'll be gathering information to update you on the latest happenings in the studio and post a few movies and images for your enjoyment.

I'm looking forward to a new season with new products this year. This promises to be a very exciting season. Stay tuned!

SPRING PORTRAITS WITH A LAMB

Hello Everyone - - - - I'm here to announce a Spring Portrait Special with a lovely Cheviot Lamb named Clover. She is lovely and two weeks old. I'm posting images taken today. She will be four weeks old at the time of the sessions.

Right now we are taking appointments for Friday, April 3rd and Saturday, April 4th. If those days book up, we will take some appointments on Sunday as well. The fee is $79. (plus tax) for the session and several images of the same pose in a package. If you are interested in learning more, please pop me an email.

This is the first session with lambs that I've offered in a few years and believe me, the result is so worth it. You can expect the same fine quality for these as with my other images.

Keep in mind - - this lovely girl is only about calf high! What a beautiful lamb and perfect for those fluffy lamb photos!

REMINDER

Portrait specials are dictated by the labs. I'm reminding all of you that the standard portrait special (traditional finishes) will end with the month of March and the canvas special will end with the month of April. If you have been considering a larger portrait or smaller reprints of a favorite, this is the time to take advantage. Just to remind you as well - - - I do offer a lay away program for purchases over $300.

We are getting all positive feed back with the way we are setting up the originals for viewing. For those of you who haven't been in the studio for a while - - - we are uploading the originals to our website for viewing. Anyone you want to give the password to is allowed to view. You can put two side by side to compare; there is a magnifying glass for going in close for detail; you can view them in black and white, color or sepia. The benefits go on and on. You can also order directly from the site or, as most of you prefer, you can call or email me your order. That is the best way if you have specific instructions or questions.
I'm very excited about this change and after talking with my clients - - - you are too! Thanks for the feed back on this.

BEACH PORTRAITS 2009

Many of you have asked when we will be going to Florida to work. We are gearing up for a trip to the Destin; SanDestin; Seaside area (and others in between) this summer. At this time we are looking at mid June.

As you all may know, we have to schedule out clients early as I must have at least three during a week. Our deposit this year will increase slightly, however, every dime of your deposit is applied to your session and purchase.

Please give the studio a call as soon as you know your dates for this event.

Our New Year Comes in Strong

I must say that 2009 has come in with a pop. Notice I didn't say "bang", but it is stronger than my January normally. This is a good thing.

I want to let everyone know that I'm now posting all of my previews from my web site. I wish I had done this earlier, but I'm never sure about change - - - for me or my clients. You all seem to love it so the days of the slide show being mailed are now out. This is allowing me a faster way for you to see your images and there are so many viewing options that the slide show didn't offer. Thanks for letting me know how you feel about this!

As many of you know, I'm doing a bit more of my fine art sales. I've been fortunate to sell a few images the past couple of years and I'll share a few with you. The one I'm sharing today is:

"The Ghost of Brush Creek". I love shooting fog and I was out doing just that. I took this photograph, but didn't realize until I was processing it that there was a boat with a dog on the front and a man in the photograph. Neat huh? I've sold three of this image. I hope this site does it justice. Bigger is ALWAYS better!

Can you believe how long since my last post? The studio has been very busy and that is a great thing, but it has caused this span between posts. We've had a great holiday season and we have taken lots and lots of photographs from Nashville to Kansas City.

I am currently wrapping up necessary deliveries and will take a few days off. I'll then get right in here and begin posting again. I have a lot to share with you!

As most of you know by now, I'm a grandmother - twice! Yes, Lilly just turned four and she has a brother, Gage, born in February. I have such a great time with them and would love to be a full time grandma. Lilly loves to come to the studio to dress up and she looks at the photos of the young girls in their pretty dresses and insists that she do the same thing. What fun.

Gage is quite the big boy and the happy boy. They came by the office the other day and we just threw them in front of the camera and got a couple of cute shots for you to see. Enjoy!

Last Week

Last week was a very busy time at the studio and this week is looking to be as busy. I was fortunate enough to have a few children that have been in the studio many times before. I'm honored when my clients continue to come to see me year after year.

I was allowed to photograph Reagan and she is as sweet and cute as ever. We did a variety of poses which included a favorite dress and a family portrait. I'm showing one of her with her lovely hair (don't we all wish we had her hair?) and one during her tea party.

Later in the week Ava came in for her six month session and brought her older brother and sister (both of whom I have photographed their first year) and let them take part in her session. Ava joined the tea party, but I've chosen a photo of Brooke and Sean having the tea party and then Ava posing in her lovely dress. Isn't she a doll? Big sister, Brooke has turned into quite the lovely young lady and handsome brother Sean is quite the gentleman!

They enjoyed dressing up in Miss Sheri's clothes and hats.

Binkie Buddies are here . . . . .

Okay, this weekend I have been working on the Binkie Buddie photo shoot. Yep. If you have a baby that likes his/her pacifier and you are concerned about breaking them in the future - these things are for you! They are the cutest. You just put your "binkie" in the mouth of the buddie you have selected - then when it is time to take them off the "binkie" you simply remove it and let them keep the buddie. They have bonded with their buddy and it isn't as traumatic for the child. The web site isn't up yet, but it will be soon. I'll keep you posted and give you a link with it is in operation.

Have you guys been to Milo Gallery on Highway 70 in Kingston Springs? It is such a cute place to visit. You want to just hang around in the cool shade in front of the gallery and cruise around looking at the neat "stuff". Dickens Christmas

Yes, we are talking about Christmas in July! This is the time when photography studios begin to think about what they will offer during the holidays. I'm letting you know that we are planning a DICKENS CHRISTMAS this year. We have the clothing for those of you who want period clothing. We will place you back in time. The time of Dickens.
We will be taking those sample images soon so keep an eye out. Those sessions will be limited and will book quickly. We will keep you posted about this on our blog. Tune in later!

Some days are diamonds in the garden. After our first blooming came and went, the second came back even better. I expect the garden to only get better as the season progresses. The weather is beautiful and our new purple chair is ready.

Kayla and Gracie

Today Kayla came in for her senior session. Congratulations Kayla! The session went quite well. We spent a couple of hours inside and outside and time just flew by.

Kayla was accompanied by Gracie (with mom, of course) and I captured a couple of images of her as well. Both subjects were quite delightful! Gracie is 21 months old and you would think she had been coming here since birth. Thanks Gracie!

Fun sessions with Sheri this week!

I have had a couple of "fun" sessions this week with some of my regulars. First of all Rosaleigh came in for her one year portrait session (part of the baby package at Fine Art Photography). At her eight month session, she brought her sister, Lilly so I've posted their black and white image as well. We have to offer equal time, you know!

Later in the week we have Katie. She has been coming to the studio regularly since birth as well. Yesterday was her five year portrait session. WOW, has she gotten tall. I'll post more beautiful images that we took, but I wanted to get these out there this morning. It was a fun day inside and outside at the studio.

Have any of you been to the Blue Goose Bistro? This place has great food and the people are wonderful. It is located on Sawyer Brown road between Highway 70 and Highway 100 in Bellevue. Rhonda and Craig Sparks own it (owners of Say Cheese in the mall) and the food is wonderful! If you haven't experienced their pizza - - - you are missing out. It is literally the best ever.
I personally love the island salad (ask for Rhonda's famous dressing) and the chicken salad.
The people are very friendly and the service is very personal.
When you go, be sure to look at my work on the walls. They have been kind enough to allow me to display in their restaurant. Everything is for sale. Enjoy!

Garden Shots

The garden here at the studio (Fine Art Photography) is the best ever! We (Sheri Reno and Tim) have worked for the past three years to get to this point. Between the deer and the drought, we have finally gotten a garden full of blooms.

We have added a second wrought iron gate and new benches. There are many different angles to shoot from and the garden only promises to blossom more with the onset of the crepe myrtle in the background when they bloom. We aren't sure yet what the cone flower will do, but they won't be missed with all the primrose and coreopsis. Come and enjoy!

You might want to try shooting a tea party in the garden this year. We do offer a variety of clothing!

This is one of the iron gates on the walkway going into the "English Garden". The image has a painterly effect. I hope you like it.

Hot Weather and Flowers

It has turned hot suddenly and some of the crepe myrtle trees are responding to the heat. The other flowers have been in full bloom and I'm in hopes they don't suffer during this extreme heat.

The garden here at Fine Art Photography is beautiful and we are adding the last few new items in the garden. We've purchased a new bench from Milo Gallery and painted a couple of benches. This garden has been three years in the making (due to deer and weather) and this year should be the best for photos so far.

Unfortunately, the cone flowers aren't responding as well as hoped, but others have taken their place in all their glory!

Okay - - I've been told I need a blog. I'm very new at this so please be patient.
I'd love to hear comments from clients and friends.

I plan to use my blog as my news letter for the studio (Fine Art Photography) and myself
(Sheri Reno). Hopefully as I get better at this - - I'll be able to notify my clients through this
venue.

Right now, I want to let my clients know that I'm planning a shoot in the Destin, Santa Rosa and Gulf Shores areas. I'm in the process of trying to coordinate at this time. Email me if you are interested.
